Global Bosses

Four events, one clock

Olympus runs four global bosses. Each is announced to the whole server, anyone can join, and everyone who helps gets paid.

BossWhenWhereTravel
Ladon, the Sleepless CoilEvery hour, on the hourThe Garden of the Hesperides::ladon
Nessus, the Hydra-BloodedEvery hour, on the half hourThe ford in the Centaurs' Forest::nessus
Charybdis, the KrakenEvery two hours, at a quarter pastThe deck of a warship, out at sea::kraken
Martichoras, the Crimson ManticoreWhen the server has earned it (kill count)The manticore's arena::manticore

::olympus shows the state of every event in one readout: what's up, what's next, and how full the manticore's bar is.

How they pay

  • A Forgemark pot, split by damage share. Anyone who did at least 0.5% of the damage gets a cut, and always at least 25 Forgemarks.
  • Guaranteed Forgemarks and Ichor Motes, sized per event.
  • One roll on the event's own table. The top five damagers get a chance at a second roll: 75% for first place, then 50 / 40 / 30 / 20%.
  • Your drop rate doesn't apply. Global events use the printed rates for everyone.

A live damage meter shows total damage, share and DPS for everyone in the fight.

Ladon, the Sleepless Coil

A small island ringed by four pools. Ladon surfaces in one pool at a time, with only her neck and head above the water.

  • The four pools. She spends a quarter of her health in each pool. Take a quarter off and she dives: she can't be hit for a moment, then comes up in the next pool round. Damage you'd planned for a pool she's left is wasted, so move with her.
  • The Deluge. Every time she surfaces, and every so often while she's up, the sea floods the island. Only a handful of shallow eddies are safe, marked on the ground a few ticks before the wave hits. Get into one. The damage scales with your own max HP, so it matters at every gear level.

Signature loot: the Scroll of Hades: Hunger of Hades, and the Stormforged Ascendant jewellery: Signet of Ascension, Heart of the Tempest and Mantle of the Storm (1 in 900 each). Plus Embers of Hephaestus and big Dracma rolls.

Nessus, the Hydra-Blooded

The centaur whose poisoned blood killed Heracles, and his blood is the danger.

  • Hydra-Blood. Every wound sheds Hydra-Blood spawns, and while a spawn lives, it heals him. A crowd that stacks on the boss and ignores the floor watches its damage melt away. Spread out and clear the blood.
  • Charge. Every so often he rears up and crashes into whoever is top of the damage board, with a named callout.
  • Clean kills pay more. Loot scales with how much blood was on the floor when he fell: a clean floor pays full, and a dozen live spawns pays about two thirds.

Signature loot: the Scroll of Tyche: Favour of Tyche, and the Stormforged Ascendant armour: Warcrest, Cuirass, Greaves, Sabatons, Grasp and the Aegis of Concord (1 in 1,500 each).

Charybdis, the Kraken

Fought on the deck of a Greek warship at sea, in two phases.

  1. The arms. At first there's only sea. Then arms come up over both rails and start tearing the deck apart. Each arm is its own target: melee range from the rail, and in sight of everyone. Arms you don't kill sink after a while and rise somewhere else. Kill 10 arms and she surfaces.
  2. The head. Charybdis breaches off the starboard side. She throws the sea at the deck (Tidal Bolts, magic), brings a whole arm down on a marked patch of deck (Slam, so step off it), and bites anyone at her rail. Every so often she draws the sea in with the Maelstrom, which hits everyone on her half of the ship. The arms keep coming the whole time.

Arm damage counts. Everything you do to the arms is added to your share of the kill, so the players who spend the fight clearing arms are paid for it.

Loot: between Nessus and Martichoras: Ember of Hephaestus, Embers, 18M-90M Dracma rolls, Forgemarks and Ichor Motes. She has no unique gear yet.

Martichoras, the Crimson Manticore

Not on a clock. The server earns this one.

  • The feed. Every kill on the server charges a bar, weighted by what died. A boss counts for far more than a trash mob. When the bar fills, the manticore starts to prowl, but it isn't awake yet.
  • Overfeeding. The charge keeps climbing until someone calls it down with ::wake. The more you overfeed it, the more health it has and the harder it hits, but the loot scales up with it too (up to 3x). Wake it early for a safe kill, or let it gorge and hope the server can handle it.

Once it's awake:

  • Sting. The tail comes down on whoever tops the damage board. It hits hard and poisons.
  • Wing buffet. It beats the whole arena with every style at once, so no single protection prayer covers it.
  • Pounce. It crosses the sand and lands on the top damager. The fight keeps moving, so a pile that stays put won't hold.

Signature loot: the Scroll of Kronos: Sands of Kronos, and the Stormforged Ascendant weapons: Tempest's Rebuke, Voice of the Heavens, the Olympian Reaper, and the Crown of the Firmament aura (1 in 400 each). It has the richest table of the four: 75M-120M Dracma rolls and the most Embers.

Tips

  • Ladon: pre-position at the next pool before she dives, and know where the nearest eddy is.
  • Nessus: assign a few players to the blood. The kill is faster and pays more.
  • Charybdis: hold the rails in phase one, then keep somebody on arm duty in phase two.
  • Martichoras: if the server is thin, wake it early. With a full server, let it overfeed.
  • The Stormforged Ascendant set is split across the three events: jewellery from Ladon, armour from Nessus, weapons from Martichoras.
