Tartarus - the labyrinth raid

The underworld#

Tartarus is a four-player labyrinth raid. The depths are Asphodel, Erebus, Acheron and The Pit; the ambushers are the Restless Dead near the fires and the Shades in the dark; the Keres hunt the blinded; and the four bosses at the heart are Echidna the mother of monsters, Tisiphone the Fury, Briareus the Hundred-Handed and the Minotaur last. The set it pays is the Tartarean set, behind the Tartarean Key forged from Tartarean Key Shard shards.

The shape of a run#

You start scattered - each player alone in a different corner of a 128-tile maze whose walls reshuffle on the depth's timer, lit only by braziers - and have to find the heart while the maze notices you. Rushing does nothing: the arena stays empty until enough has happened (kills, searched remains, events) for the maze to converge. Then four bosses back to back with no bank and no break.

The dark is the mechanic. Within 7 tiles of a fire ambushes drop to a third; more than 2 tiles from one for 10 ticks and Echidna's Brood hunts you; fifteen seconds in every fire goes out for thirty. At the heart the four arena braziers are a second health bar - Echidna and the Minotaur take more damage in firelight, and the Minotaur destroys any fire it is left standing in.

The lobby preview#

The loot preview in the lobby reads the real key-box table rarest-first - the key, the Tartarean weapons, helm, body, aura and ring - so what a run can pay is visible before you queue.

Rewards#

Shards toward the key, the Tartarean set from the key box, 15,000 Olympian Points per member on a clear, and the Tartarean Key is one of the four raid keys that pay Forgemarks and Titan Cores on the Forge. The Tartarean Key also rolls an Enchanting Tome on top of its reel.
