The Umbral Deep - slayer in the dark
A custom slayer dungeon where you choose how dark it gets. Three lantern tiers, a light radius that is the whole difficulty dial, a sanctuary hub, and a pact sealed to your task so you cannot flip the risk off before the last roll.
The idea
Most slayer dungeons are a corridor with monsters in it. The Umbral Deep is a corridor with monsters in it and a decision: at the Slayer Brazier in the entrance hall you pick how dark you want it, and darkness buys you rewards.
| Tier | What it does |
|---|---|
| Lit | The dungeon as normal. No buffs, no bonus. |
| Dim | Monsters hit harder and more often. Drops and Slayer points are multiplied. |
| Pitch | The richest tier. You see a handful of tiles around your lantern, and the monsters know it. |
The tier is yours, not the room's - two players in the same chamber can be on different tiers, and nothing you do can change another player's difficulty.
The lantern is the mechanic
Darkness here is real. The game view goes black beyond your light, the minimap dims with it, and the light source is the lantern in your shield slot. Three tiers exist:
| Lantern | Light in Dim / Pitch | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Slayer Lantern | 5 / 2 tiles | The entry lantern. Cannot enter Pitch - the richest tier is gated behind the Infernal drop. |
| Infernal Slayer Lantern | 7 / 3 tiles | Burns at 75% rate, +5% damage and drop rate in the Deep. |
| Abyssal Slayer Lantern | 9 / 4 tiles | The only one that survives an Eclipse - the periodic blackout that snuffs lesser lanterns. |
Braziers around the dungeon refuel your lantern. They hold no room state, so there is nothing to grief.
The pact
Sealing a tier at the brazier also seals it to your current Slayer task. You cannot fight the whole task on Lit and switch to Pitch for the last kill's drop roll - breaking the pact early wipes your Gloomsight streak, the kill-streak bonus that grows while you stay in the dark. A new task, or the same task reassigned, starts a fresh pact.
The map
A hub-and-spoke: the entrance hall (The Threshold) sits dead centre with eight chambers ringing it, difficulty climbing clockwise from the south and the boss chamber at the south-west. The Threshold is a sanctuary - tier effects never apply there and it stays lit even with no lantern, so it is a genuine safe room to bank and swap gear in. The game tells you when you are protected and warns you on the way back out, so the exception never reads as a bug.
The Deep has its own slayer master, Vesper, its own contract rewards and its own perk panel. It sits at the very top of the slayer ladder - 150 Slayer, above Boss contracts at 125 and the Pokemon League at 130.
