Enchanting - the 26th skill

Write an enchantment onto a blank scroll from crystal and dust, roll a tier from 1 to 5, read it onto your gear and watch it glow. Twenty-four enchantments across every slot, Tomes from the world bosses and boxes, materials from salvaging, a Grimoire interface, and Medea at home to teach it.

What it is

Enchanting is the skill in the new cell at the bottom of the Skills tab, and it works the way World of Warcraft does it. You write an enchantment onto a Blank Enchant Scroll from crystals and dust, the craft rolls a tier from 1 to 5 (T1 50%, T2 30%, T3 14%, T4 5%, T5 1% - and T5 is 110% of the listed numbers), then you read the scroll onto a piece of gear in the slot it fits. The enchant stays on that item for good; a new scroll overwrites it and Disenchant strips it.

Twenty-four enchantments cover every slot. A few are flat lines - Keen Edge +8% damage, Crest +10% accuracy - and most are procs: Cinders burns, Rime chills, Growth poisons and stacks, Tides splashes, Abyss rends, Phantom Blade heals, Sun smites everything within three tiles, and Oblivion erases a tenth of what the target has left, capped at five of your max hits.

They do not stack

Multi-slot enchants like Mending or Cuirass do not stack across pieces - one copy counts, wherever it sits. The popup says so.

The Grimoire

The Grimoire of Enchanting is the whole interface: a Learned tab, an Unlearned tab of the recipes you still need a Tome for, the materials each one takes against what you are holding, a live odds line for the tier roll, and the Craft button. Hovering any scroll or Tome - in the book, a shop, the bank or a box panel - shows the enchantment's effect at this tier and the tier-5 maximum.

Learning recipes

Six enchantments are known from level 1 on level rungs - Veil, Mending, Cuirass, Crest, Rime, Cinders. Everything else is learnt by studying its Tome, a book consumed on reading:

  • The three world bosses each carry one Epic and two Rare Tomes plus boosters - Medusa: Abyss, Frost, Tides; Asterion: Radiance, Signet, Embers; Polyphemus: Selene, Arcana, Mantle. Raid monsters never drop items, so no Tome comes from inside a raid.
  • Boxes and raid keys roll a Tome on top of the reel prize, and are the only source of the two Legendaries, Tome of Sun and Tome of Oblivion. The Box Opening panel lists those bonus rows in purple, marked "+1/N".
  • Zone monsters drop one Common Tome each at 1/75,000, and a Sealed Enchantment teaches a random enchantment you do not know.

Materials

Crystals and dust come from salvaging gear - the Crucible pays Enchanting materials by the item's gear score alongside its Forgemarks - and from boxes and the Skilling Point Store (at most three materials per box). Blank scrolls come in a Bundle of Blank Scrolls. The Artisan talents drive scroll quality, and enchanted items are named for their owner.

Glows

Every enchant shows on the body: a full WoW-style glow shell on weapons and shields, a subtle tint on armour. There is a Show Enchant Glows toggle in client settings for anyone who prefers plain steel.

Medea

Medea, the Enchantress, stands in the home skilling hall. She is the on-boarding NPC - and the only source of the Grimoire - so the first stop for the skill is a conversation with her.
